The Xbox 360, successor to the Xbox, is a video game console by Microsoft. Along with PlayStation 3 and Wii, Xbox 360 forms the new generation of popular video game consoles. Microsoft also had said it will cut the price of its Xbox 360 Pro, with a 60-gigabyte hard drive, to $299 from $349 and its top-end Xbox 360 Elite with a 120-gigabyte hard drive to $399 from $449.

Xbox 360 problems are quite common. The console is subject to a number of technical problems. Flashin red lights, also known as red ring of death signify the possiblities of errors in the console. The three flashing red lights (”Red Ring of Death”) is the most infamous. Recently, there has been legal action taken attempting to hold Microsoft responsible for the failure rate and provide reasonable compensation for those affected. When a Microsoft Xbox 360 console experiences a “general hardware” failure or “core digital” failure, 3 flashing red lights appear around the power button, in lieu of the four green lights indicating normal operation. Warning signs includes freeze-ups, with graphical problems like checkerboard or pinstripe patterns in the middle of game play, frozen or strange, static-like sound, and the console only responds to pressing the power button to turn it off. When the error occurs, the user attempts to turn the console on and the three red lights are seen and the console will not function. In newer consoles, there can be three lights flashing with a green light flashing in the center for power outages.

This scaler chip is what gives the Xbox 360 its superior graphics.  If you are experiencing this problem, you need to phone the support center for your Xbox 360 to report the problem. There are big chances that you can send them your unit to be repaired.

If you have 2 red lights on the power button, then this is indicating that your Xbox 360 has overheated. You can fix this problem by shutting down your game console, and letting it cool off for a couple of minutes You should try to avoid overheating in the future, because this could eventually be leading to hardware failure or even worse to popular red ring of death, as well known as the 3 red lights error.   

If your Xbox 360 is overheating, you should be cleaning it to take off the dust from the unit. Also, make sure to put console unit out in the free area with adequate ventilation.

If you experience the 3 red light error, this signals a serious issue with your Xbox 360.  This 3 lights tells you that your console has experienced an overall hardware problem, and you should send it to Microsoft for fixing.

If you get 4 red lights. This is probablly nothing to be concerned with, since it might just mean that the wire isn’t properly connected. Check the connector and you will usually solve the issue.

The problem of DVD drive error, or if the Xbox 360 is unable to read the DVD that is also caused by overheating.  If you get this problem, you’ll need to send the Xbox 360 to Microsoft to be fixed.
